There are occasions that stay in your mind, and then there are occasions that you not only see, but also feel. Our visit at Basalt at the hard rock quarry in Meinerzhagen clearly belonged to the second category. Between booming signals, vibrating air, and deep insights into the world of blasting technology, we were able to experience how tradition, precision, and modern occupational safety interact in a quarry.
And it was precisely there, between 5-meter-deep boreholes and around 1,000 cubic meters of loosened rock, that a day unfolded which was more than just a customer appointment for us at cluetec: it was an authentic glimpse behind the scenes of a company that focuses on safety, quality, and digital optimization with impressive precision.
A morning full of energy: 1,000 cubic meters of rock in motion
Even before our first coffee, we were standing at the quarry’s blasting line while the Basalt team made the final preparations.

When the acoustic signals finally sounded and the demolition experts cleared the site, it became clear that nothing here happens by chance. Every movement, every command, every safety measure is part of a well-coordinated system.
Then the bang. Short. Precise. Powerful. And right before our eyes, an entire section of the mountain began to move. A moment that shows how closely technology and responsibility are linked.
The “explosive workshop”: Digitalization meets integrated management systems
After the blasting, we moved from the quarry to the meeting room, but the energy remained. Together, we worked on issues that are crucial for the entire Basalt Group:
- Role-specific authorization systems for profit centers
- Review of the implementation of the IMS management system

- ISO 900, a quality management certificate for higher customer satisfaction
- ISO 14001, standard for environmental management systems to reduce environmental impact
- ISO 45001, standard for occupational health and safety
- ISO 50001, standard for energy management systems
The workshop was open, constructive, and fitting for the day: “explosive” in the best sense of the word: full of ideas, clarity, and momentum for implementation.
“Kräbbelchen” and communication: the sweet side of the quarry
Of course, with all this energy, enjoyment should not be neglected. The local specialty, “Kräbbelchen,” similar to doughnuts but without jam, quickly became the insider tip of the day. This led to conversations that went far beyond audit processes. This is what partnership on equal terms feels like.
Bottom line: A day that shows how strongly tradition and digitalization can work together
The factory tour at Hartsteinwerke Meinerzhagen gave us an impressive insight into how much expertise and responsibility goes into the daily work with basalt – and how useful digital tools can be in supporting these processes.
For us at cluetec, this day was a valuable source of inspiration: greater understanding of practical applications, more clarity for upcoming features, and increased motivation for joint digital initiatives.
